Surrender a Dog

SURRENDER - Long-term boarding for pet dogs

Dog House receives multiple calls everyday from parents who wish to give their pet dogs up for different reasons. A dog whose owner can no longer care for him must find a safe alternative in the form of a new family or a long-term boarding home. You can surrender a dog to Dog House Chennai if dog rehoming has not materialized.

SURRENDER is Dog House's long-term boarding program for pet dogs who can no longer be maintained by their owners. The program will benefit parents who are unable to keep their dogs but are willing take up financial responsibility for their dog, while we offer him/her lifetime care at Dog House.

So how does SURRENDER work?

1. You pay INR 1,00,000 ( for small dogs) , INR 1,25,000 ( for medium dogs) or INR 1,50,000 ( for large / extra-large dogs) to book your dog's stay and care with us for one year and enjoy visitation rights and get video updates on your dog during this period.

2. The fee includes boarding, food, bath and grooming. If veterinary and/or transport expenses arise during the stay, they have to be covered by you additionally.

3. At the end of one year, if your circumstances have changed and you wish to take your dog back, you are welcome to do so.

4. If you are unable to take your dog back at the end of one year, you can choose to continue his/her stay at Dog House by covering the costs involved on a quarterly basis.

5. If you are unable to take your dog back at the end of one year, Dog House can initiate adoption efforts for your dog and attempt to find him/her a new family. You are welcome to participate in the adoption process and collaborate with us in finding the perfect family for your dog.

Reasons for surrendering your dog :

1. Your dog is aggressive : If your dog has been persistently displaying aggression towards you and all your efforts to address the problem have not yielded results, you can surrender your dog.

2. You are physically or mentally unfit to care for your dog  : If you have a long-term illness or age-related ailments that make it difficult for you to care for your dog, you can surrender your dog.

3. Your environment is not conducive to your dog's well-being : For example, if you have an Arthritic dog who is struggling to move on your tiled floor at home and you don't have an alternative housing option for him, you can surrender him.

4. You're moving to a country that won't allow you to take your dog with you  : Some foreign countries impose rigid regulations on moving pets. If you have tried and failed to move your dog to your overseas destination, you can surrender your dog.

5. Death of the primary caregiver : If the primary caregiver of the dog has died and the rest of the family is unable to care for the dog, you can surrender the dog.

In addition to the above, there may be other genuine reasons why parents are no longer able to care for their dogs. Dog House will evaluate each case and qualify a dog for the Surrender program. To know more about Surrender, please call 9500058836.
